If you think playing poker is all about looking for a crimson red nostril, twitching eyebrow, or a finger touching the ear then I beg to disagree. A lot poker players, especially those new to the game, think that the game is all about picking up the tells and bluffing against your opponents.

While detecting and hiding poker tells is very important, those who want to play the game should learn the basics of poker. A great player can bet a newbie of the game even if he tells them what are his cards during the turn but of course it will depend on how he is perceived by the other players.

So what is the line between great players, good players, and average players? The great players has the ability to read hands. Great player can use the information they have gathered during the round and the past rounds to narrow the possibilities of the cards their opponent is holding. Knowing the betting patterns and knowing the range of things that they can do on the table can make a life a lot easier for you.

You will hear people saying that great players can read minds and can even see your soul while playing poker, but these players read your tells based on the betting that takes place and not on meager mannerisms.

The professionals know how to intimidate you on the table, staring you down, playing with his chips so you will think that he might raise, or will be calling immediately. No matter what the strong players do, it can make beginners feel intimidated and uncomfortable. If that happens to you then the poker pro succeeded with his goals.

You do not have to be obsessed with poker tells. No need to stare at everyone and see if they will be giving out something. You do not dismiss them but tells should not be the only focus of your game.

Today we have a ton of choices when it comes to poker books. There are a lot of good reads out there that we can use to improve our skills. Here are some tips on how you can maximize your money spent for a poker book:

Read the whole book

Most of the time, we browse for a good title of a poker book and leap through some chapters of the book where we can find some useful things that can help us with our game. Then we get bored and we never pick up the game again. This should not be the case ideally.

Stop and Read

A lot of books are left unfinished because we are busy playing online poker or playing in local tournaments. We should take some time off the game and have the discipline to pull out the poker books from our shelves and read. This will also help us learn some discipline. Stopping is also one great way to recover from a series of bad beats.

Thinking time

When you devote time reading away from the poker table, you will be able to discover the real content of the poker books that you have. You will find out that there are a lot of lame poker books out in the market but however lame they are, I am pretty sure that you will be able to pick an important lesson or two about the game.

Re-read and Compare

Rereading a poker book is actually a tough thing to do knowing that we do not finish a lot of them. Doing so though may give you another point of view about the different concepts it presents which you might use in your game. Comparing different books will also help you understand why different poker players differ in opinion about a lot of thing about poker. You should be able to discern which things you should pick up and use as part of your poker strategy.

Discuss and follow-up

When you discover something about poker through a book, it will be best to discuss it through poker forums so you can compare your understanding of the concepts with other poker enthusiasts or professionals.

Poker players always aim at winning the pot. However, poker players should constantly upgrade themselves and keep learning different tricks which would add charisma and attitude to their playing styles.

Reading this article will help you master some of the most effective and incredible poker tips to win the game.

Players adopt a wrong strategy by playing too many hands. Players should know when to play and fold the cards. The right approach at the right time helps tremendously. If you are not folding the cards it indicates you have a good hand which would help you win the game. Most players think that playing more hands may result in magnifying the chances of winning. However, this is not true.

Another tip which would help you to easily sail the game and win the pot as well is choosing a table which has amateur players which would increase your chances of winning the game.

One of the most important tip that I would like to share with the players is that you should have a comprehensive understanding of playing position. You should proceed in the game only if you have a good hand and you should never play out of turn as it gives away secrets like anxiety, happiness and so on. The best position in the game is button which gives you a chance to observe the game and playing styles of the opponents. Don’t play Clonie Gowen in the same way as you would your father in law!

One of the best ways to dupe your opponents is by being unpredictable in the game. You should have the right attitude and should be able to change gears if required. Sometimes, the situation may demand you to play bluffs and sometimes you have to resort to aggressive playing in order to prove your opponents that you are an important player on the table.

You should avoid playing poker if you are not in the right state of mind. You would need to concentrate and effectively take decisions and also manage your poker earnings. This cannot be done if you are in an irksome, agitated and foul mood. Seasoned players have the knack of judging your mood and it would be difficult to dupe them if your emotions easily give away your state of mind.

You should carefully observe the opponents when you are not busy with our game. Do not consume alcohol as a clear mind would help you to play in a refined manner.
